Cookie policy

No advertising cookies. Analytics cookies on this website only if you say yes, and nothing on the journey sites that isn't needed for the walk to work.

This website

waymarker.place uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful — but only if you accept analytics cookies when we ask. Until you do, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set. If you reject them, nothing changes. The site serves its fonts and images from its own address, so visiting it doesn’t otherwise tell anyone else that you were here.

What this website stores in your browser
WhatWhyHow long
_ga, _ga_…Google Analytics, only if you accept. Tells one visit from another so we can count visitors without knowing who they are.13 months
waymarker:analytics-consentRemembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don’t ask on every page. Kept in your browser’s local storage.12 months, then we ask again

We have turned off Google’s advertising features, so nothing collected here is used for ads. Analytics cookies are set for waymarker.place only, never for journey sites. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page; if you withdraw consent, we remove the analytics cookies.

Journey sites

Journey sites — the walks organisations publish with Waymarker — don’t set cookies and don’t use Google Analytics. They do store your progress in your browser’s local storage, which works like a cookie but never leaves your device.

What journey sites store in your browser
WhatWhyHow long
waymarker:progress:…Remembers which stops you have checked in at on a journey, so your stamps are still there later.Until you clear your browser’s data for the site

This is strictly necessary to give you the stamps and completion you asked for, so the law doesn’t require us to ask first. It is not sent to us or to the organisation, and it isn’t used for tracking.

The builder

When someone signs in to build journeys at app.waymarker.place, we set one cookie that keeps them signed in. It can only be read on app.waymarker.place — never on a journey site — and it ends when they sign out or the session expires. Walkers never see it.

Controlling what is stored

Every browser lets you see and clear what a site has stored, and block it if you prefer. If you block storage on a journey site, the walk still works — your stamps just won’t be remembered between visits.

If this changes

If we ever need to store anything else that isn’t strictly necessary, we will ask you first and update this page. Our privacy policy covers everything else we do with data. Questions to [email protected].

Twenty minutes, your route, no slides.

Tell us about a walk you already promote and we’ll show you what it looks like as a Waymarker journey. If it isn’t a fit, we’ll say so on the call.
